So, the question today is:

How to choose glasses that suit your face shape?

or

What pair of sunglasses/shades would look best on your face shape?

Personally, glasses are one of my favorite accessory which does both of the jobs:

  1. Fashion, and
  2. Function.

Think of glasses as not a visual necessity but as an amazing accessory that you can wear on your face. And you can instantly improve your sexiness with a right pair of glasses.

Even if you are not prescribed, you can still grab a cool pair and rock ’em… who cares, Jack?

Determine the Best Glass Frame for your Face Shape

Follow these steps:

Step 1: Determine your face shape.

You may find various variations but generally there four common types of face shapes:

  • Heart/Diamond
  • Round
  • Square
  • Oval

You are one of them.

Here’s a little cheat sheet that I found really helpful:

If you still can’t determine your face shape then take a photo of yourself directly facing the camera and use a piece of tracing paper to outline the edge of your face to work out your face shape.

Step 2: Determine best suitable glasses.

The key to determining the best suitable glasses is to find out a contrast to your face shape.

If you have a round face then look out for a more structured glass frame (square, rectangle, etc.). And if you have a more structured jaw, then pick a glass with softer edges.

People with the triangular face are kind of lucky because they can mostly wear anything (except triangular shaped glasses).

Let’s take a look at each face shape with examples.

Heart / Diamond Face Shape

Tyler Oakley rocks a nice pair and it looks perfect.

Round Face Shape

Round face should choose frames that are wider than they are tall like this worn by Seth Rogen.

Square Face Shape

If you have a square and structured face, the goal is to soften the angularity.

The sunglasses wore by Brad Pitt looks great as they are less structured.

Oval Face Shape

People with oval face shape can wear more structured glasses and less of softness.

Here Robert Downey Jr. rocks those shades and looks amazing.

Step 3: Determine your face size and color.

Regardless of face shape and glass shape, you’d want to wear glasses that are the right sizes.

The key is to wear glasses that are the size of your cheekbones and you’ll look much better.

Glasses usually come in different sizes ranging from 40-62 mm but 52 mm & 55 mm are more common.

Frame size should not be more or less than the size of cheekbones, i.e., between the measurement lines.

You can also look out for glass frames based on your body color.

The three main factors are:

  1. Skin
  2. Eyes
  3. Hair

Skin tone is the prime element and it falls into two main categories – cool (blue-based) and warm (yellow-based).

A mixture of blue and yellow is called olive skin (which is not very common).

Everyone looks best in their color base, so look out for color that compliments your personal color.

Conclusion

Glasses are an amazing way to add detail and character to your face.

So, these were the three steps to determine the perfect glass frame for your face shape. But, remember, that these are just recommendations, if you’ve tried a pair and you think it’s good, then it is good. If it’s bad, then it’s probably bad.

Now, tell me:

Are you currently wearing any glasses or shades on regular basis? Do they contrast your face shape?

Also, tell me your favorite brand when it comes to buying glasses and/or shades.
